Pune: Leopard spotted in Katraj area, residents frightened (Video)
Pune: A video clip of a leopard crossing the road in Dive Ghat went viral a couple of days ago. As the incident was fresh in people’s memory, another leopard was spotted on Sunday (July 7) near Aryan School in the Crusher area in Katraj Ghat.
Garage mechanic Sayyad Saif and his colleague Sajid Shaikh spotted the animal and filmed it. Saif said, “We were going in our car when we saw the leopard resting at a spot. As it saw us, it vanished in the thicket. Leopard sightings have increased in urban areas, which is a cause for concern.”
Incidents of leopard straying in human habitat have grown in the district. Now, it has come to light that the feline is also moving in the Katraj area. Meanwhile, local residents from Gujar-Nimbalkarwadi, Mangdewadi and Bhilarewadi are scared due to the presence of the big cat.
The Katraj Ghat and its surroundings is a forest area. Leopard-like wild animals are seen in the area. Residents in Bhilarewadi and Guraj-Nimbalkarwadi also sighted a leopard. Local residents said that they tried to contact Forest Officer Sambhaji Gaikwad but got no response from him.
