Increased Water Discharge from Khadakwasla Dam

Pune: The city and the district has received good rainfall from the past one week. This has helped the water storage to increase in the Khadakwasla chain of dams, which was 24.95 TMC on Sunday (July 28). Around 5,000 cusecs of water was released from the Khadakwasla Dam.

The catchment areas of all the four dams received bountiful rains last week. Besides ending the drinking water crisis for the city, sufficient water storage is now available for farming. All the four dams in the Khadakwasla chain of dams have been filled to their capacity and water is being released from them. The total capacity of the four dams is 29 TMC. Their current total storage is 24.95 TMC, which has ended drinking water worries of the Puneites.

Enough water for drinking and irrigation purposes

The catchment areas of the four dams, Khadakwalsa, Varasgaon, Panshent and Temghar, have been receiving good rainfall around July end, which has ensured adequate water storage for drinking water and irrigation purposes for the year ahead. The four dams have been filled to their respective capacities and water is being released from them. The total storage capacity of the Khadakwasla chain of dams is 29 TMC. The current storage is 24.95 TMC. This has ended water concerns of the Puneites.

The catchment areas are receiving incessant rains. Water was discharged from the Khadakwasla Dam on Sunday. Depending on the rainfall in the catchment areas, discharge will be controlled.

The monsoon rainfall was delayed during June. However, it started raining satisfactorily from mid-July and storage levels increased in the dams. Heavy rains for the past 4-5 days have ensured good water storage in the Khadakwasla chain of dams. A discharge of 4,712 cusecs was made from the Panshet Dam for the first time during this season.

Incessant rainfall continued in the catchment areas of the dams.

Appeal by the administration

The discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam was increased up to 13,981 cusecs at midnight on Sunday. It could either be increased or decreased depending on the rainfall in the catchment areas. Citizens should not enter the riverbed, appealed the Sub-Divisional Engineer, Mutha Left Canal Irrigation Sub-Division.

Discharge increased

A 5,136-cusecs discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam was increased up to 7,704 cusecs at 8 pm on Sunday (July 28) night. A discharge of 4,712 cusecs was also released from Panshet Dam on Sunday afternoon.
