Jalgaon: In a landmark decision, Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister, Chandrakant Patil, announced the complete waiver of educational fees for girls from families with an annual income below eight lakh rupees. This initiative, aimed at promoting higher education among girls, previously covered only half the fees for 642 courses but has now been extended to full coverage.

A government resolution (GR) has been issued, mandating that any affiliated institutions demanding fees from these students will face cancellation of their affiliation. To ensure compliance and address grievances, a toll-free number and a ten-member task force will be established.

State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil came to Ammalner on Monday, August 5 to lay the foundation stone of the sub-centre of Open University. On this occasion, he interacted with the journalist.

Patil said, ” There is joy and enthusiasm among girls for education in every part of the state. Also, there is a picture of satisfaction among the girls in every village.”

Government will be spending Rs 900 crores on this scheme.

Minister Patil emphasized the importance of this decision in breaking financial barriers and encouraging higher education among girls. The task force will monitor institutions to prevent unauthorized fee collection and ensure that the benefits reach the deserving students.

This initiative is expected to significantly boost the enrollment of girls in higher education institutions, thereby contributing to their empowerment and the overall development of the state.
