Pune: 93.11 pc water storage in the Khadakwasla chain of dams as rain recedes in catchment areas
Pune: Rain activity has receded in the catchment areas of the Khadakwasla chain of dams in the past couple of days. Currently, light or medium rainfall is witnessed in the catchment areas of the Mulshi, Temghar and Vadiwale dams.
A yellow alert has been issued in Pune and Satara districts. Heavy rainfall may occur in the Ghat sections, said the met office.
The total water storage in the four reservoirs supplying water to the city has gone up. Rainfall increased after the second week of July. But has subsided in the catchment areas of these dams now. The total storage in the four dams is now 93.11 pc.
The rainfall recorded in the catchment areas in the past 24 hours from till 8 am on Thursday was as follows: Temghar – 9 mm, Varasgaon – 7 mm, Panshet – 6 mm and Khadakwasla- 1 mm. Over 1,000 cusecs water is being released from the Temghar Dam. Around 600 cusecs each is being discharged from Varasgaon and Panshet. Over 1,000 cusecs water is being released into the Mutha right canal from Khadakwasla Dam.
The Pavana Dam, which supplies water to Pimpri-Chinchwad, has 7.97 TMC water, which is 93.64 pc. Other dams in the district, including Kalmodi, Andra, Bhatghar and Ujani have been filled to their respective capacities. Water is being released from them into rivers. Pedgaon, Dimbhe, Chaskaman, Bhama Askhed, Vadiwale, Kasarsai, Gunjavani, Nira Devghar and Veer dams have 100 pc storage. This was revealed by the State Water Resources Department.
The four dams in the Khadakwasla chain have 93.11 pc water storage, which is 27.14 TMC. The storage in the four dams is as follows: Khadakwasla – 82.13 pc, Panshet – 93.37 pc, Varasgaon – 92.59 pc and Temghar – 100 pc.
