Pune: Sinhagad Road Flyover Set to Open After Long Delay; Deputy CM Ajit Pawar to Inaugurate on Thursday Morning
Pune: The much-awaited flyover at Rajaram Pool Chowk on Sinhagad Road is finally set to open after months of anticipation and public criticism. Following the recent cessation of heavy rains, the final layer of asphalt was successfully laid on this flyover, marking the completion of the flyover’s construction. Despite this, the flyover remained closed, drawing significant criticism from the people for the delay in its opening.
The flyover, which spans between Rajaram Bridge and Fun Time Theatre, was constructed to alleviate the persistent traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road. The project had been delayed due to continuous rainfall over the past two weeks, which had kept the gravel wet and forced the closure of the asphalt plant. Officials were concerned that applying the asphalt in wet conditions could lead to road deterioration and the formation of potholes, prompting further criticism from the public.
On Saturday, however, after the rain has stopped, the final asphalting of the flyover was completed. Despite the flyover being fully ready, it remained closed as it awaited an official inauguration. This prompted the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Pawar faction to advocate for its immediate opening to the public.
In response to the growing frustration, the government has finally scheduled the inauguration. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is set to officially open the flyover at 7 a.m. on Thursday. This opening of the flyover is expected to bring much-needed relief to the residents of Sinhagad Road.
