Pune: Last two days left to avail 40 pc rebate in property tax
Pune: A survey has been launched by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to grant the 40 pc concession in the property tax for self-occupied flat owners. Its work is 80 pc over.
Property Tax Department Deputy Municipal Commissioner Madhav Jagtap said, “Civic staffers have visited 3.61 lakh properties for the purpose. Only two days of the survey are left. The deadline will not be extended.”
The civic body has been giving a 40 pc concession in property tax to residential properties since 1970. The rebate was cancelled in 2018. New properties were charged 100 pc tax from 2019. Moreover, the concession was withdrawn for rented properties after a GIS mapping survey.
However, citizens raised their voice against this as many self-occupied properties were deprived of the concession. They blamed a faulty survey for this.
Later, the State Government withdrew the decision to cancel the 40 pc concession. Self-occupied property owners were asked to fill PT-3 form to avail the concession. Still, many flat owners did not fill the form. Therefore, the PMC launched the survey on its own.
Civic staffers started visiting self-occupied houses. The survey deadline was set as August 15. Out of over 4.61 lakh properties, over 4.50 lakh houses were surveyed till August 13. Thus, over 80 pc work is over.
