Pune: Rs 19 crore worth cash, jewellery seized in Kolhapur range

Kolhapur: Valuables worth Rs 19.13 crore were seized within the Kolhapur Police Range till November 10. They included Rs 6.64 core cash, Rs 2.83 crore illegal liquor, 113-kg Ganja worth Rs 22 lakh, Rs 1.87 crore gutkha, 9-kg gold and 60-kg silver valued at Rs 7.50 crore. This was revealed by Special Inspector General of Police Sunil Fulari.

The Model Code of Conduct came into effect from October 15 in the backdrop of the State Assembly elections. Instructions were issued to five Superintendents of Police (SPs) within the Kolhapur Police range, including the Pune Rural Police, to take effective action against illegal businesses, arms, narcotics, liquor, illegal cash, gifts, etc. Thus, preventive action was taken.

Three districts, including Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur Rural, share their borders with Karnataka. As many as 36 check posts have been set up to curb on the inter-state border to curb smuggling from Karnataka into Maharashtra.

Special IGP Sunil Fulari conducted surprise visits to some of these check posts in Kagal, Shivnakwadi, Sangli-Mhaisal and Solapur Rural. Joint squads comprising the Regional Transport Department, GST Department, Excise Department, Forest Department and Anti-Narcotic Cell took action at these check posts.

Vote without fear

Special IGP Fulari appealed to voters to cast their votes without fear as the Police Department has taken measures to create a free and fair atmosphere during the election. NBWs have been issued against history-sheeters; combing operations are being conducted and police parades are being staged in sensitive areas.
