Mumbai: The Election Commission of India (ECI) lodged a complaint against BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde after Nallasopara MVA candidate and MLA Kshitij Thakur alleged that Tawde distributed money in Nallasopara. BJP candidate Rajan Naik has also been booked under the People’s Representation Act.

Tawde has clarified his position. He said, “It is a conspiracy against me. The ECI should launch an impartial probe into this. I went there to meet party workers. I have done nothing wrong. It is a ploy by MVA workers. The police and the ECI should investigate this.”

MVA workers levelled a serious allegation against Tawde that he came to a hotel in Virar with Rs 5 crore to distribute. Reacting to the allegation, Tawde said, “It is a ploy to defame me and my party. CCTV footage should be checked. Thakur knows me well. I have been working for the party for the past 40 years. I took a halt in Nallasopara for a workers’ meeting as I was returning from Wada. I came here to explain to them the rules on the day of polling. Our opponent thought that I came here to distribute money. I told them that they should check if they had doubts.”
