10,000 cops on poll duty in Pune; CAPF, SRPF to support police
Pune: Election campaign that continued for 20 days ended on Monday (November 18) evening. The election machinery is gearing up for the polling day.
The Pune City Police have strengthened security across Pune to ensure peaceful voting and no law and order violations. The Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), the Quick Response Team and the Home Guards have also been deployed to support the police.
Seven Assembly segments in the city and parts of one city constituency and three segments in rural parts also fall under the Pune Police jurisdiction. The seven city constituencies are Kasba Peth, Vadgaon Sheri, Shivajinagar, Kothrud, Parvati, Cantonment and Hadapsar while some parts of Khadakwasla, Shirur, Bhor and Purandar are within the City Police limits.
As many as four Additional Commissioners of Police, 11 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 22 Assistant Police Commissioners, 64 Police Inspectors, 311 Assistant Police Inspectors and Police Sub-Inspectors, 5,255 police personnel, 1,879 Home Guards, 15 companies of CAPF, two divisions of SRPF have been deployed to monitor the polling process. Moreover, combing operations and nakabandi will be clamped across the city on Tuesday (November 19) night.
As many as 3,339 voting centres have been set up in 716 buildings in the city. There are more than 10 voting centres in 58 buildings. Security has also been provided around all voting centres across the district, where one Superintendent of Police, two Additional Superintendents of Police, nine Sub Divisional Police Officers, 35 Police Inspectors, 287 Police Sub-Inspectors, 3,246 police personnel will monitor the voting process.
Besides 11 CAPF companies, 2,600 Home Guards and a company of the SRPF will assist the police. A special squad has been deployed to accompany the transport of ballot boxes from voting centres to the strong room.
