Pune: The Pune Airport made history on Sunday (December 8) with 204 take-offs and landings of flights by breaking its earlier record of the highest flights (200).

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has provided 218 slots (scheduled time slots for landing and take-offs) for the Airport Administration in the winter season. Airlines have booked 206 slots out of 218. However, 194 flights operate in reality. The airlines played a trick and reserved more slots to artificially hike fares.

When the media brought this to the notice of the Airport Administration, the airlines were pulled up and warned against such practice. Consequently, the airlines used the maximum slots allotted to them. As a result, 102 flights landed and an equal number took off from the airport on Sunday. Over 32,000 passengers travelled by these flights.

Airport Director Santosh Dhoke said, “The highest number of flights operated at the Pune Airport on Sunday. The airport is now connected to various other airports. The number of flights has increased in the sector, where passengers’ response is good. Thus, flight operations have gone up.”
