Pune:

Two days ago, the entire Wagholi area plunged into mourning after a horrific incident where an intoxicated dumper driver ran over nine individuals, killing three individuals and injuring six. This accident left the community in shock and grief. In this regard, the police earlier arrested the dumper driver within 24 hours.

However, after the driver’s arrest, people were also demanding the arrest of the owner of the dumper. Accordingly, yesterday, police arrested the dumper owner who allowed the dumper driver to drive the dumper despite knowing that he was addicted to alcohol. The arrested dumper owner has been identified as Anil Kate (age 39, a resident of Dapodi).

Police informed that Anil Kate was aware of the dumper driver, Gajanan Shankar Totre’s, alcohol addiction, and despite that, Kate gave him a job as a driver. When the dumper driver was going with the dumper, Kate was aware of it. Though Kate informed the police that he did not know whether Totre had drunk alcohol on Sunday night, the police arrested him for his alleged negligence while hiring the employees.

As per the rule, the employer was expected to repeatedly inform the driver not to drive the vehicle after drinking alcohol while hiring them. However, as the dumper owner showed carelessness while hiring the dumper driver, the police have arrested him.

Police also informed that before crushing the labourers at Kesnand Phata, the dumper driver had hit the shutter of the customer service centre on Baif Road in Wagholi. In this, the centre operator’s computer, printer, Xerox machine, and the wall were damaged. After the impact, the dumper driver, Gajanan Totre, had an argument with the tea vendor there. After that, Totre had rushed the dumper and crushed 9 labourers who were sleeping on the pavement near Kesnand Phata.
