Pune: Guillain–Barré Syndrome (GBS) has spread in some parts of the city. A suspected patient of the disease has died. Preventive measures are being taken.

A World Health Organization (WHO) team, along with civic officials, surveyed an affected area on Monday (January 27). This triggered panic among citizens.

On the other hand, GBS spread further and 101 cases were confirmed. In all, 16 patients are on a ventilator support, said the PMC Health Department.

All of a sudden GBS patients began to be detected in Pune last week. The administration is taking steps to curb its spread. But the number of patients is growing. In this backdrop, the WHO team visited the city. The team, along with civic officials, visited Nanded village.

Pune patient dies in Solapur

A 40-year-old patient, living in Dhayari, died due to GBS. He was admitted to hospital in Solapur. It is said that he died during treatment.

GBS is spreading in the city. As many as 28 patients were detected in a single day. In all, 23 patients are in the age group of 50 to 80. Among the affected are 19 children.
