Pune: Launch ‘surgical strike’ against encroachments: Amitesh Kumar (Videos)
Pune: In an aggressive stance, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar has directed the police and the civic administration to launch a ‘surgical strike’ against encroachers in the city. He issued the directive during an interaction with citizens.
CP Kumar and Haveli MLA Dnyaneshwar Katke jointly surveyed traffic in Wagholi and discussed measures to solve issues. PMC, PMRDA, PWD, MSEDCL and RTO officials were present. The CP interacted with local residents and learnt about problems faced by them. He instructed the departments concerned to look into them.
CP Kumar said, “We walked for a couple of kilometres and saw many encroachments. It is my request to all police officials, the civic body, PMRDA and PWD that Wagholi needs a ‘surgical strike’. There should be no mercy. Close down all those establishments which have suddenly occupied public places.
“Tell them to remove encroachments on their own because they know what they have done. The PMC should cancel their licences. I saw steel material, furniture lying on Kharadi Road. There is an anda-bhurji handcart in front of a country liquor shop. Repair all such roads. Do not wait for January 10, demolish encroachments by launching ‘surgical strike’.”
Action against garages fixing loud silencers
CP Kumar said, “Some bike riders intentionally modify silencers and make loud noise, particularly Bullet riders. Impound such two-wheelers and act against the garages, which modify such silencers.
“Some Bullet riders have silencers making firecracker-like sounds. Seize such bikes and run a road roller over them and finish them off. Raid places from where they procure such silencers and close such shops.”
‘Streetlights should function’
It is a very serious matter that streetlights do not function on many roads in Pune. All such work orders have been released and street lamps should be repaired immediately.”
