Pune: MCOCA invoked against gangster Gaja Marne and his gang for beating up Murlidhar Mohol’s follower

Pune: The Pune Police have invoked the MCOCA against three members of the Gajanan alias Gaja Marne gang for beating up a close aide of BJP leader and Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar has said that action will also be taken against Gaja Marne. The move is seen as a big blow to the Marne gang.

Giving details about the operation, CP Amitesh Kumar said, “The MCOCA has been invoked against the three accused. The police want to root out the gang. In all, 27 accused are on the police radar. Action will also be taken against the gang leader. Nobody should take the law into their hands. We have sought details about properties held by the gang members from the DDR while details about their vehicles will be procured from the RTO.”

The members of the Marne gang roughed up Murlidhar Mohol’s follower at Bhelke Chowk in Kothrud at around 4.45 pm on Wednesday (February 19). The victim received serious injuries to his nose and foot. Tirthraj Dharmajidnyasu (35), resident of Kothrud, Kiran Kondiba Padval (31), resident of Kothrud, and Amol Vinayak Tapkir, resident of Kothrud, were arrested in this regard.

Mohol expressed anger

Reacting to the incident, Mohol said, “The victim is a BJP worker. I appeal to the police to take strict action against the culprit not because the victim is my worker but they should act strictly against anyone harming a youth or citizen in Pune. I will not tolerate the way Pune’s image has been tarnished. Such incidents must stop, failing which we will act in our own way.”
