Pune : Police investigations have revealed that during the brutal assault on IT engineer Devendra Jog at Bhelke Nagar, Kothrud, gangster Gajanan Marne was accompanied by two Toyota Fortuners, another car, and around 7 to 8 two-wheelers. Authorities are now working to identify and seize these vehicles by tracing their number plates.

The incident occurred on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti when Devendra Jog, who was riding his two-wheeler, got caught in a traffic jam at Bhelke Nagar. As he attempted to move ahead, two individuals approached him and launched a violent attack over a minor bike-related altercation. Initially, the Kothrud police registered the case as a mere scuffle. However, further investigation revealed that the assailants were linked to the notorious gang of Gaja Marne, prompting authorities to escalate the case to attempt to murder.

Following this revelation, police booked Gajanan Marne, Rupesh Marne, and four of their accomplices under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Soon after, Gaja Marne himself surrendered at the Kothrud police station. When produced in court on Tuesday, he was remanded to police custody until March 3. The probe has been transferred to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ganesh Ingle.

Further investigations indicate that Marne and his associates were heading towards Shastri Nagar around 4:30 PM after watching a movie at City Pride, Kothrud, when the attack took place. CCTV footage from the vicinity captured the two Fortuners, a car, and multiple two-wheelers surrounding the crime scene as Jog was being assaulted. The police have begun seizing the vehicles involved.

Meanwhile, three of the attackers have already been arrested by Kothrud police. However, Babya, alias Shrikant Sambhaji Pawar, remains at large, along with Rupesh Marne, both of whom are being actively pursued. Additionally, police are conducting a technical analysis of Marne’s mobile phone conversations to uncover further details regarding the attack.
