Pune: Goon Gaja Marne’s luxurious car impounded

Pune: History-sheeter Gaja alias Gajanan Marne is paying dearly after his gang members beat up a close aide of Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol.

The Kothrud Police arrested Gaja Marne too. He is currently lodged in police custody. Details are emerging following his interrogation. Moreover, the luxurious car he used on the day of incident has also been impounded.

Gaja Marne watched Hindi film ‘Chhava’, along with 35 others, on February 19. Many of them were riding two-wheelers. Marne was in a Fortuner car. While returning from the film show, some Gaja Marne’s companions quarrelled with Devendra Jog at Bhelke Nagar Chowk. They beat up Jog. Marne was present at the spot. He told the court that he provoked the accused to beat up the youth. Marne has been sent to police custody till March 3 for further investigation.

Gaja Marne and his accomplices have been on the police radar. The police seized the two-wheelers of other accused. Now, they have seized Gaja Marne’s luxurious car. The police said that the car was purchased in some other person’s name. The police are checking CCTV footage to search for other accused in the case.

The other arrested accused included Om Tirthraj Dharmajidnyasu (35), Kiran Kondiba Padval (31), and Amol Vinayak Tapkir (35), all residents of Kothrud. Gaja Marne’s nephew Shrikant alias Babya Sambhaji Pawar, Rupesh Marne are absconding. Devendra Purushottam Jog lodged a complaint in this connection.

How did the incident take place?

Complainant Devendra Jog is an IT engineer and a worker of the BJP. Initially, the police invoked sections related to beating-up. However, considering the seriousness of the matter, a section related to attempt to murder was added.

Jog was returning home on February 19. He was halting by the roadside. Four accomplices of Marne beat him up on the pretext that his vehicle hit their two-wheeler. He was injured seriously in the incident. Later, the police arrested the accused after checking CCTV footage.
