Baramati / Pune: As the state election campaigning has started in the state, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), Sharad Pawar, has hinted at his retirement from active politics. While speaking at the election campaigning of Yugendra Pawar in Baramati, senior Pawar gave hints of him not contesting any election ahead.

Earlier last year, Sharad Pawar gave the resignation of his post as president of the then-United NCP party. However, after all the officials and party leaders requested him to take back his decision, he again accepted the party leadership. After that, a large chunk of the NCP leaders split from the party under the leadership of Ajit Pawar, accusing lack of opportunity in the party.

After that, today, Sharad Pawar himself hinted at his retirement from contesting any election henceforth. He said, “I am not currently in power in the state. Currently, I am a member of Rajya Sabha. So far, I have the time span of 1.5 years in the Rajya Sabha. However, after that, I have to think whether I would go to Rajya Sabha again or not.”

At this time, Sharad Pawar said that he would neither contest the Lok Sabha nor any other election. He said, “So far, I have contested 14 elections. In all these elections, you people blessed me and elect me every time. But we need to stop somewhere. Therefore, to bring a new generation ahead, I am working now.”

After this, the discussion is going on in the state politics about whether Sharad Pawar really hinted at his retirement from active politics or if it is just another master stroke of Sharad Pawar against his nephew Ajit Pawar, who parted his ways with uncle Sharad Pawar, hinting at his continuation in politics even in his 90’s.
