Pune: Huge crowds, enthusiastic youths, Kothrud residents rejoice in Dahi-Handi celebrations organised by Amol Balwadkar Foundation (Videos)
Pune: Amidst slogans of ‘Govinda ala re ala’ and ‘Are bol Bajrang Bali ki jai’, DJ music and light showers, youths participated in a large number in the Dahi-Handi celebrations organised by the Amol Balwadkar Foundation at the Balewadi High Street Ground on Tuesday evening.
Teams of Govindas from Pune, Mumbai, Baramati and Thane saluted at the event. Then the most important moment arrived after 9.15 pm. Govinda teams started forming human pyramids of six-seven layers. Finally, a seven-layer human pyramid formed by the Shri Krishna Govinda Pathak broke Dahi-Handi.
A public felicitation of Olympic Bronze Medal Winner (50-m rifle shooting) Swapnil Kusale was held on behalf of Puneites, particularly by residents of Kothrud. The lad from Kolhapur brought laurels to the country after 72 years in the individual event. Kusale was honoured with a cheque for Rs 5 lakh and a citation.
The Dahi-Handi celebrations held by the Amol Balwadkar Foundation attract huge crowds every year in the Kothrud area. A large number of youths attended it and enjoyed the company of DJ Cartex A-Yo, Mayra and Akshay, who were a special attraction of the event.
Citizens and youths from the Kothrud Assembly constituency and from across the city participated in the function. All members of the Amol Balwadkar Foundation were present.
