The festival of “nine nights” is a vibrant festival honouring and worshipping the divine feminine energy embodied by the Goddess Durga. Each night of Navratri is dedicated to a different form of Goddess, symbolizing various aspects of life, such as strength, wisdom, compassion etc.

Devotees come together to engage in vibrant festivities, rituals and processions, culminating in the festival of Dussehra, which symbolizes the victory of good over evil.

Fasting is an integral part of this festival. Many fast throughout the nine days with fruits and liquids, or just consume Satvik food – boiled potatoes, Suran etc or specific vegetables. Also used as accompaniment to various farali items like Upwas Misal, toppings on Sabudana Khichdi etc.
