Pune: Citizens have to face water shortages ahead of Diwali due to mismanagement of the Civic Administration. The four dams supplying water to the city are filled to their capacity, yet the Puneites are not getting adequate water supply.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) decided to suspend water supply to the entire city last Thursday (October 17) due to electricity-related work at the water supply centres. The Water Supply Department said that supply would be low pressure and delayed the next day (on Friday). However, supply was not restored to many city areas on the next day also.

Citizens were helpless and did not know when water supply would be normalised. They lodged complaints with the department. They were told to contact civic officials and employees in their respective areas. But they did not even respond to citizens’ calls. Senior officials were not taking note of their grievances. Therefore, citizens were upset.

In this backdrop, the department has decided to suspend water supply on Saturday (October 26) for the entire day. The PMC will undertake repairs of the water pipeline towards Ramtekdi from the Lashkar Water Supply Centre.

This will affect water supply to Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Magarpatta City and surrounding areas. These areas will not be supplied water for the entire day on Saturday and there will be supply with a delay and low pressure on Sunday (October 27), said the Lashkar Water Supply Centre.

The affected areas are entire Ramtekdi, Sayyad Nagar, Heaven Park, Shankar Math, Vaiduwadi, entire Mundhwa, Magarpatta, Akashwani, Satesatra Nali, Keshav Nagar, Hadapsar Gaothan, Satavwadi, Gondhale Nagar, Sasane Nagar, Kalepadal, Shinde Vasti, Bhim Nagar, Milind Nagar, Bharat Forge, Mohammadwadi Gaon, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, NIBM Road, Pokalemala and Handewadi Road area.

Citizens have been complaining about the department’s erratic style of functioning. They are upset that no planning is done even during important festivals and citizens are forced to face hardships.
