28 live cartridges found in air passenger’s bag at Pune airport
Pune: As many as two magazines, along with 28 live cartridges, were found in the bag of a farmer leader at the Pune airport, who was travelling to Hyderabad.
Indigo Airlines Security Officer Preeti Bhosale lodged a complaint at the Vimantal Police Station in this connection. Deepak Sitaram Kate (32), a resident of Indapur taluka, was later arrested. The incident took place at 10.45 pm on January 3. Deepak Kate arrived at the airport and put his black colour bag on the scanning machine. The metal detector found a suspicious object.
The complainant and her colleague Sahil Shaikh opened the bag and found 28 live cartridges of 7.65 calibre and two magazines. When inquired, Deepak Kate said that the bag belonged to him. He said that he did not possess any arms licence. He refused to give details about the ammunition. Therefore, he was handed over to the Vimantal Police Station.
According to PSI Sandeep Karpe attached with the Vimantal Police Station, Deepak Kate is a farmer from Indapur and agitates over farming and dairy issues. He was attending various programmes for the past few days and was travelling to Hyderabad for a Warkari Sampraday programme. Kate alleged that someone put the cartridges in his bag to spoil his political career. Kate was remanded to judicial custody.
