Mumbai: The Christian community in the State has decided to support the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) as the latter has promised to provide opportunities to eligible community members to represent in the State Legislative Assembly, the State Legislative Council and local self-governing bodies. Community members will be appointed to various state corporations and minority bodies. A financial development corporation named after Pandita Ramabai will be set up for the community’s development.

Community leaders alleged that they were only used during the elections in the past 75 years. Not a single person from the community was elected to the State Legislature. Consequently, 50 lakh Christians in the State remained backward.

Addressing a press conference, community leader Vijay Barse said, “The Christians have decided to unite as a community. A discussion was held with MPCC President Nana Patole over various issues faced by the community. A promise was made to fulfil the demands of the community. Therefore, support has been extended to the MVA.”

He added that the support would be reviewed if the community would not be given representation in civic elections in the State.
