After the Swargate Rape Incident, Pune Police Identify High-Risk Zones, Push for Streetlights, and Increase Patrolling in Such Areas

Following the horrific rape of a young woman at the Swargate ST Bus Stand, the police administration has finally sprung into action and begun implementing proactive measures. Recently, the police conducted a survey of the dark and deserted areas of the city. In this regard, the police will follow up with the Pune Municipal Corporation to install bright street lights in these areas.
The Pune Police Commissioner, Amitesh Kumar, gave this information on Friday. At this time, he also said that he had instructed the heads of all major police stations in the city to increase patrols in such areas to avoid any future such incidents in the city.
Yesterday, the accused in the rape case of a young woman passenger in the premises of Swargate ST station was arrested by the police from Gunat village in Shirur taluka at midnight. Informing in this regard, Amitesh Kumar said, “In the wake of the recent rape incident on a young woman, the police inspected the dark and deserted places in the city. Instructions have been given to the municipal administration to install streetlights in these areas. The police will follow up with the PMC to install streetlights. Police have been instructed to patrol deserted areas where there are lights and other facilities are not available.”
He further informed that the state government has decided to provide a fund of Rs 80 crore to the Pune Police to take security measures on the hilly areas in the city in the wake of the recent Bopdev Ghat gang rape case. The proposal in this regard has been approved, and security work on 22 hills in the city will be completed in the next six months.
“600 state-of-the-art cameras will be installed on 22 hills in the city. Of these, 200 are Pan, Tilt, and Zoom (PTZ) cameras. AI-based cameras will be installed on the hills to quickly identify criminals. Further, a panic button system will be installed on the hills. As soon as the panic button is pressed, the police control room will receive an immediate notification. In addition, 177 floodlights will be installed on the hills,” added Kumar.
