Mumbai: The State Legislative Assembly elections were special, distinct and unique for many reasons. It was the first poll after the historic splits in the Shiv Sena and the NCP. This raised many questions in voters’ minds and among political circles.

Its results not only shocked political pundits in the State but also those in Delhi. The Maha Yuti had a historic mandate. The BJP won 132, the Shiv Sena (BT) 57 and the NCP (AP) 41 seats. The opposition MVA came a cropper with less than 50 seats.

Devendra Fadnavis swore in as the Chief Minister while Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar became the Deputy CMs. Later, Rahul Narvkar was elected the Speaker of the Assembly.

Interesting details are emerging after the swearing-in of all MLAs. Many leaders set a record of getting elected as MLAs. It is the eighth and the highest number of terms for four MLAs: Ajit Pawar, Dilip Walse Patil, Jayant Patil and Kalidas Kolambkar.

Seven-term MLAs are Girish Mahajan, Mangalprabhat Lodha, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Prakash Bharsakale, Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Sopal, and Vijaykumar Gavit.

Six-term MLAs are Devendra Fadnavis, Ganesh Naik, Chainsukh Sancheti, Bhaskar Jadhav, Shivaji Kardile and Hasan Mushrif.

The opposition has doubts about the landslide victory of the ruling alliance. Therefore, they have been agitating against the alleged misuse of EVMs and demanding elections using ballot papers. They are likely to file a petition in the Supreme Court to press for their demands.
