As the assembly elections approach, political activity has intensified across the state. Party leaders are engaged in discussions over seat-sharing arrangements, while candidates are positioning themselves to secure favourable nominations.

Amid this political flux, several candidates are considering switching parties if denied tickets, posing a significant challenge for the Mahayuti leaders.

In a notable development, reports suggest that former NCP MLA Ramesh Appa Thorat is preparing to leave the NCP and join the NCP (SP). Thorat himself has confirmed this potential shift, which could significantly impact the NCP’s standing in the Daund constituency, currently led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

This move comes in the wake of speculation that the BJP might secure the Daund constituency within the Mahayuti coalition. Thorat, sensing a strategic advantage, has begun making preparations for his switch, including engaging with local communities and assessing their reactions. He indicated that he would finalise his decision based on the feedback he receives from the public.

Thorat has been a loyal member of the NCP since its inception. But, after the faction in the party in 2022, he chose the side of Ajit Pawar. However, the shifting political landscape in the state appears to be prompting him to realign with the NCP (SP). He has said to make a formal announcement regarding his decision within the next week.
