Breakthrough in Bopdev Ghat gang rape case, one detained (Video)

Pune: The Pune Police detained a suspect in the Bopdev Ghat gang rape case on Friday (October 11) as the inauguration of the seven new police stations and other projects was underway in the presence of DyCM Devendra Fadnavis and DyCM Ajit Pawar in the city.

Joint CP Ranjan Kumar Sharma said that once it became clear, details would be revealed. They were searching for the other two suspects.

It is said that the victim identified the suspects. They were traced through CCTV footage. They were captured while purchasing alcohol in a liquor shop in Yewalewadi.

The police were tight-lipped and were not ready to reveal more details. The victim and her friend were sitting at the plateau in the Ghat on October 3 night when the culprits tied up her friend and beat him up. Later, they gang-raped her. The Pune Police were trying hard to trace the suspects for the past several days. They formed 60 teams. They also announced a cash award of Rs 10 for providing details about the suspects. Finally, the suspects have been traced.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar announced, during the inauguration of seven new police stations, that they succeeded in detaining one suspect.
