Cloudy weather causing dengue, viral fever in Pune
Pune: Citizens are falling sick due to the changing season and fluctuations in temperature. Patients of viral infections are growing in the city due to continuous drizzle, humidity and breeding of mosquitoes.
Though the Health Department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is focusing on the zika virus, viral fever cases have shot up in Pune.
Though the zika virus is in the limelight, the number of dengue and viral fever patients is growing multiple times. Viral infections have increased as the rainy season is picking up. Fever, cough, throat infection, body ache are the common symptoms among patients. One member of a family initially has these symptoms then others contract them and sometimes, the entire family falls sick. Not only children are missing school but their parents are also forced to stay home due to illness.
Sunlight usually kills germs and viruses. But the cloudy weather helps them multiply. This is exactly what is happening currently. Children and elderly are falling prey to them due to decreased immunity.
Dengue spreading rapidly
Water gets stagnated at many places during the rainy season. Mosquitoes breed at such places, which is leading to the spread of dengue. The number of dengue patients has grown considerably. Therefore, demand for platelets has also gone up.
