Pune: The Ekta nagar and Nimbajnagar areas on Sinhagad Road have been severely affected by flooding, with water levels reaching chest height in some places. The inundation has disrupted daily life, forcing residents to halt their routines.

In response to the crisis, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered the deployment of army personnel to the affected areas. The city administration and disaster management teams are working unitedly to rescue residents trapped in their homes.

Rescue operations in Ekta nagar and Nimbajnagar are being conducted using boats. Fire brigade teams are using various rescue equipment, including boats, ropes, life jackets, and life rings, to safely evacuate citizens. By 11 a.m. this morning, approximately 160 residents had been rescued and relocated to safer areas.

In the Nimbajnagar area alone, more than 70 residents have been evacuated. Provisions such as food and water have been arranged for those still stuck in their homes due to the flooding.

Amidst ongoing heavy rainfall, both fire brigades and army personnel are actively involved in the rescue operations. The administration has urged residents to remain indoors and avoid venturing out, as the rain persists and water levels are rising due to the discharge from Khadakwasla Dam. Citizens have been specifically warned to stay away from bridges and other water bodies to ensure their safety.
