Devendra Fadnavis confident of stemming rebellion

Mumbai: The ruling Maha Yuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are facing rebellion in the State Assembly elections. Their leaders are trying to dissuade rebels from contesting polls. Will they be able to stem rebellion? An answer to this question will be given on the day of withdrawal of nominations on November 4.

DyCM Devendra Fadnavis exuded the confidence that they would be able to dissuade rebels.

Top leaders from both alliances are busy meeting rebels and pleading with them to change their mind during Diwali. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is November 4. So, till then, some dramatic developments could be witnessed, said observers.

‘Rebels belong to us’

Devendra Fadnavis said, “We are working to dissuade rebels from contesting elections. I am sure there will be no rebellion in the Maha Yuti. In some segments, multiple candidates have been fielded. CM Shinde, Ajit Pawar and I held a meeting over the issue. Rebels will withdraw their nominations. They belong to us. We will pacify them. They understand the larger picture and party interests. Therefore, many of them are ready to relent.

“The BJP has a strong organisational base. Worker and the party organisation are the important factors. They will take us to victory.”

Meanwhile, Vinod Tawde met rebel Gopal Shetty from Borivali segment. Fadnavis also said that Shetty is an honest worker. They will speak with him. Fadnavis would hold talks with CM Shinde, Raj Thackeray over Sada Sarvankar’s candidature and would find a way out.
