Pune: The Pune city celebrated the festivals of Gopal-Ashtami and Dahi Handi with great enthusiasm yesterday. Among the numerous events in the city, the Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Dahi Handi, held at Shri Ram Chowk in Hadapsar, stood out as the most prominent. Organised by Shiv Sena city chief Pramod Nana Bhangire, this Dahi Handi is renowned for offering significant cash prizes and attracting large crowds.

The Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Dahi Handi is known throughout Pune for its grand prize of over Rs 7 lakh and its ability to draw massive crowds, despite the absence of celebrity appearances. The event’s popularity is bolstered by the impressive Dhol Pathak performances and a state-of-the-art Dolby sound system that fills the atmosphere with energy and devotion.

This year, the Govinda team from Annabhau Sathe Tarun Seva Mandal, Mumbai, claimed the top prize of Rs 7,17,171 by successfully breaking the Dahi Handi. As they broke the Dahi Handi, the atmosphere was filled with the sounds of devotional songs dedicated to Lord Krishna, and the entire area was immersed in the spiritual fervour.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Vice-Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Textiles, and Parliamentary Affairs Chandrakant Dada Patil, Legislative Council MLA Yogesh Tilekar, and Hadapsar MLA Chetan Tupe.

At this time, the financial assistance was provided to two families who had recently faced tragic losses in the rainfall. Priyanka Kumbhar’s husband had been swept away in the July floods, and Geeta Patil’s husband had died after a tree fell on him. Both families had not yet received any government assistance.

Recognising their urgent need, the Eknath Shinde Foundation and Shiv Sena city chief Pramod Nana Bhangire extended financial support of Rs 1 lakh to each family in the hands of Shiv Sena leader Dr. Neelam Gorhe.

At this time, Pramod Nana Bhangire asserted that this act of social responsibility was a real tribute to the late Anand Dighe Saheb.
