Mumbai: Many NCP (SP) leaders expressed their anger over the functioning of EVMs during the State Assembly elections. A meeting of newly elected MLAs and defeated candidates of the NCP (SP) was held at the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan auditorium in Mumbai on Tuesday (November 26).

The elected MLAs and defeated candidates blamed the party’s losses in the polls on EVMs. Replying to their complaints, NCP (SP) President Sharad Pawar said that they would approach the court over the issue and would appoint a team of lawyers to look into the issue.

‘A people’s agitation will be launched’

NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad said that they would launch a public agitation over the EVM issue. Sharad Pawar should take the initiative and lead the stir, he said.

Awhad said, “Though I won in the Kalwa-Mumbra segment with a big margin, EVMs had issues at many other places. Elections should be conducted with ballot papers. If the USA uses ballot papers in the elections, why cannot we do that?”
