Excellent performance by Pimpri-Chinchwad Police in 2024

Pimpri: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police’s preventive action throughout 2024 instilled fear among criminals. The Lok Sabha and State Assembly polls were held this year. The police arrested 1,297 culprits for carrying illegal arms during the election year.

An independent Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate was carved out by dividing the Pune City and Pune Rural Police forces on August 15, 2018. The police faced a challenge then to curb criminal gangs and hardened criminals in MIDC and Maval.

The police invoked the MCOCA, externment and preventive detention to curb crime syndicates. However, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police came into the limelight after the Kishor Aware murder case and Shirgaon sarpanch killing in 2023. They also acted against criminals in 2024 in the backdrop of the two major elections.

Arms and ammunition seized

In a big action, the police confiscated 215 pistols and 420 cartridges. They registered 167 offences against 239 suspects for carrying illegal arms. They busted an illegal weapon sale racket, in which pistols were brought from other states to sell in Maharashtra.

Some people indulged in vandalism by wielding koytas and other sharp weapons. They were spreading terror. The police booked 1,058 such criminals in 723 cases and seized 907 arms.

Rohingyas’ stay in twin towns

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police launched a big operation to trace Bangladeshi intruders, Rohingyas. They acted against 27 intruders and registered eight cases. The police also cracked cases, where some Rohingyas even procured passports. As many as 62 such passports were cancelled.

Honour and administrative efficiency

Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey succeeded in expediting work at the Police Commissionerate. Pending investigations and cracking of numerous cases were conducted speedily. He emphasised on holding a dialogue with citizens and addressing their complaints. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police were honoured by the State Government for responding to a call on ‘112’ within six minutes.

First ultra-modern building

The government allotted 9-acre land to the commissionerate in Moshi. The first ultra-modern police commissionerate in the country is being built there. Around 50-acre land was also given for the police headquarters at Tathawade. Another 15-acre land was made available at Kalewadi Phata to build quarters for the police officials. Manpower was recruited in a major drive. New 145 vehicles were inducted in the police vehicle fleet.

Setting up of five police stations

CP Choubey got five new police stations approved by the government. The Cyber, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Kalewadi, Bavdhan and Dapodi police stations were set up. The DCP zones were increased from two to three. Spaces were provided for zones, ACP offices and police stations.
