Former PMC Mayor Ulhas Dhole Patil Passed Away on Monday

Former Mayor of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and popularly known as Nana amongst people, Ulhas Balkrishna Dhole Patil, passed away on Monday. He had been ill for the past few days. He breathed his last on Monday morning.

Ulhas Dhole Patil was a famous businessman. A few decades ago, Ulhas Dhole Patil and his wife Kamal Dhole Patil started a dairy business. After that, in 1974, Ulhas Dhole Patil contested the municipal elections as an independent on a friend’s request. Surprisingly, he won that election. After that, he was consecutively elected as a corporator to the Municipal Corporation six times, every time on different symbols.

Interestingly, he was a corporator for 38 consecutive years. In this long tenure as a corporator, he also served as the Chairman of the Transport Department of the PMC. In 1986, he was elected as a mayor of the PMC. The interesting thing about him is that in spite of his blossoming political career, he never quit his dairy business. He was famous as a milkman mayor.

His wife Kamal Dhole Patil was also a corporator. Both were popularly known as Nana Nani among the people. Further, Kamal Dhole Patil became an MLA. Ulhas Dhole Patil has two sons, Rahul and Sagar Dhole Patil. Along with farming, dairying, and hotel business, the Dhole Patil family is also active in the field of education.
