Funds to build compound wall along nullahs distributed only to segments of BJP MLAs in Pune
Pune: The State Government has given Rs 200 crores to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to build compound walls along nullahs in the city. However, money has only been sanctioned to the five segments of BJP MLAs.
The remaining segments of the Congress and the NCP MLAs have not got the funds.
Many housing societies along Ambil Odha were inundated in 2019. Compound walls of these societies collapsed in the floods. The PMC built the wall and culverts to protect societies from floods in some areas. But it could not build the wall in other areas due to technical issues.
The State Government has given Rs 200 crores for the purpose. The PMC’s Drainage Department floated five tenders to carry out the work. The District Collectorate objected to the tenders citing non-compliance with rules. Now, a new proposal has been prepared and sent to the District Collector for their approval.
There are eight assembly segments in Pune, through which nullahs flow. These nullahs get flooded during the rainy season. But the civic administration has got the list of five segments sanctioned from the government, where there are BJP MLAs.
Tenders have been floated amounting to Rs 41.23 crores for the Khadakwasla constituency, Rs 24.80 crores for the Shivajinagar segment, Rs 39.04 crores for the Cantonment assembly seat, Rs 41.15 crores for the Parvati constituency and Rs 19.90 crores for the Kothrud constituency.
However, the Vadgaon Sheri, Hadapsar and Kasba assembly segments have not been included in them. Thus, the compound walls will not be built along the nullahs in these segments. It is noteworthy that both the NCP MLAs belong to the NCP (AP), a part of the ruling Maha Yuti.
Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale said, “The State Government has sent Rs 200 crores. We have got the administrative approval from the District Collector. The State Government has given a list of works in five constituencies. Accordingly, the work will be carried out.”
Rs 24 crores for a ward in Kothrud
The State Government has given the list of 88 spots, where the compound wall will be built. Seven compound walls have been suggested in Ward No. 12 in Kothrud, for which Rs 24 crores have been sanctioned.
