‘Guilty in Crop Insurance Scheme irregularities will face strict action’
Union Agriculture Minister’s promise while replying to query from MP Supriya Sule
New Delhi: MP Supriya Sule asked a question about corrupt practices in the Crop Insurance Scheme. It has been a very beneficial scheme for farmers in Maharashtra.
In Lok Sabha, the Union Agriculture Minister immediately replied to her query and promised that an inquiry would be launched and the guilty would face strict action.
MP Sule asked the question during a discussion in Lok Sabha. She said, “The Maharashtra Agriculture Minister himself has admitted corruption amounting to Rs 500 crore in the Crop Insurance Scheme. Moreover, BJP MLA Suresh Dhas has claimed the scam to be valued at Rs 5,000 crore. This is a very serious matter and the State Government has admitted that the rightful funds meant for lakhs of farmers have been misappropriated.
“Were you aware as the Union Agriculture Minister about the State Government’s admission? Would you order an inquiry into the scam?”
The Union Agriculture Minister immediately replied to her query and promised to probe the matter and to take stringent action against the guilty.
