Heavy Rain in Alandi Increases Indrayani River Water Level, Three Bridges Closed for Traffic
Alandi: Heavy rains in the Indrayani River catchment area have caused the river’s water level to rise significantly, leading to flooding on both banks. In Alandi, the Bhakti Sopan bridge and the Bhakta Pundalik temple have been submerged. The water level in the Indrayani River continues to increase.
In response, on Thursday, July 25, authorities closed three bridges: the old bridge near Alandi PMPL bus station, the bridge from Chakan Chowk to Dehu Fata, and the new bridge in the Siddhabet area.
The water level has been rising due to continuous heavy rains since Wednesday, July 24. The situation worsened with increased rainfall in the evening and overnight. The iron protection stone on the Bhakti Sopan bridge is believed to have been swept away by the floodwaters. Additional water released from the Vadivale Dam, coupled with heavy rains in the Lonavala area, has exacerbated the flooding.
In anticipation of further flooding on Thursday morning, the police and municipal administration preemptively closed the old bridge on the Indrayani River, the main bridge at Chakan Chowk, and the bridge in Siddhabet, placing barricades to seal the roads. Traffic heading to the city and Pune has been diverted through the new bridge adjacent to the old bridge, causing dual traffic on this route.
To prevent devotees from accessing the Indrayani Ghat, the Municipal Corporation and police have closed roads in the area with wooden bamboo and iron sheets. Police have been deployed at various locations. Chief Magistrate Kailas Kendra and Senior Police Officer Bhima Narke have urged citizens and devotees to avoid the flood-affected areas of the Indrayani River.
