I would have offered ‘Pedha’ to Chief Minister, had he ensured hanging of the accused: Supriya Sule
Baramati: NCP (MP) Supriya Sule has demanded an ‘inquiry’ into the ‘encounter’ of the accused in the Badlapur sexual abuse of minor girls.
Sule said, “I would have offered the first ‘Pedha’ (sweet) to the Chief Minister, had he ensured that the accused in the Badlapur sexual abuse case gets hanged. Because our country runs as per the Constitution. It does not run on anybody’s whim and fancy. This is very serious. The face of the accused was covered in a black mask. He had handcuffs. How could he grab a gun? How could he attack the police? It is necessary to take responsibility for the attack on the police.”
Sule addressed a press meet in Baramati on Tuesday and expressed her anguish over the development. She said, “Our country is not run on anybody’s whim and fancy. It runs according to the Constitution. This act does not fit into the Constitution. The word ‘encounter’ was not heard in Maharashtra. It should be clarified whether it is an encounter. His face was covered with a black cloth; his hands were tied. How could he grab the gun? How did he fire at the police? How did the encounter happen?
“These are the questions that come to my mind. The government publicly announced its ‘commitment’ that the trial would be held in a fast-track court. Why was the FIR delayed and how much time did it take? The government should answer these questions.”
She warned that the government would not be able to shirk its responsibility.
Sule said, “This government split parties, broke families, used the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate to issue notices. It did not undertake any concrete project. It has nothing to show. Therefore, how did the state cabinet take a new decision every fortnight?
“I am not worried about Akshay Shinde in the Badlapur case. On the contrary, I requested the government to run the trial in a fast-track court and ensure the accused get hanged at a public place. My stand is that such culprits should not dare to repeat such crimes. But the entire ‘encounter’ raises many questions, which are very serious. The state police are also not safe. How could such an attack take place?”
