Indapur Police Arrest Local Resident for Keeping Aurangzeb’s Photo as WhatsApp Status

Pune :
Yesterday, the Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi triggered a massive controversy by calling Mughal ruler Aurangzeb a “good administrator.” After that, all the leaders of the ruling Mahayuti government lashed out at Abu Azmi and called for legal action against him.
As the dust had not completely settled on that controversy, a fresh row took place in Indapur, where Indapur police arrested and registered a case against a person for keeping a photo of Aurangzeb on his WhatsApp status.
The accused who was detained by Indapur police has been identified as Akram Rashid Qureshi (a resident of Qureshi Galli, Indapur). BJP city president Kiran Ganbote (a resident of Ambika Nagar, Indapur) has filed a complaint in this regard at Indapur police station.
As per the information, Akram Qureshi had put a photo of Aurangzeb on his WhatsApp status by writing Wafat-i-Hazrat Aurangzeb Alamgir R.A. under it on March 2. The next morning, when the plaintiff, Kiran Ganbote, was checking WhatsApp status on his mobile phone, he looked at the status kept by Qureshi.
Considering the status could hurt the feelings of the entire Hindu community and it could lead to disturbing communal harmony in the society, the plaintiff immediately filed a complaint against Qureshi at Indapur Police Station. Accordingly, the police arrested Qureshi and registered a case against him. Within an hour of the case being registered, the head of the Crime Investigation Team, Constable Prakash Mane, and Constable Salman Khan arrested the accused.
Meanwhile, to prevent further law and order disturbance in the society, Police Inspector Suryakant Kokane had maintained tight security in the area of dargahs, mosques, and temples in the city. Faujdar Dattatray Lendve is conducting further investigation in this case.
