Independent Chandrapur MLA supporting Maha Yuti to join NCP (SP)
Chandrapur: The filing of nominations for the State Legislative Assembly elections started on Tuesday (October 22). But aspirants are changing parties overnight in the hope of candidature and a victory in the polls.
Independent Chandrapur MLA Kishor Jorgewar, who was supporting the Maha Yuti, would now join the NCP (SP) on Wednesday (October 23). Jorgewar held discussions with Jayant Patil and would meet Sharad Pawar soon. He said the discussions were fruitful.
Jorgewar contested as an independent in 2019 and won by 75,000 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Nana Shyamkule and the Congress candidate. Ramchandra Potdukhe won as an independent from Chandrapur in 1962. Jorgewar is the second independent to win the poll from the segment.
He demanded the Congress ticket last time. However, he failed to contest from the party and fought as an independent and won. He supported the MVA government. In June 2022, he backed Eknath Shinde.
Humble background
Kishor Jorgewar belonged to a common family. He lost his mother recently. She was known for ‘Amma ki Dukan’ and ‘Amma ka Tiffin’. She used to cook meals for the needy daily. She supported her family in a very tough situation by making utility items out of bamboo. She educated her kids. Even after being elected as an MLA, Jorgewar used to look after her small shop at Gandhi Chowk.
Meanwhile, he decided to follow Samarjitsinh Ghatge, Harshvardhan Patil, Sanjivraje Naik Nimbalkar, Sandip Naik and Dr Rajendra Shingne to the NCP (SP).
