Pune :
From the inter-gang rivalry and the revenge of the murder of recidivist criminal Madhav Waghate, a few individuals fired bullets at one accused on Monday afternoon. In this case, the Bibvewadi Police have arrested three members of Madhav Waghate’s gang.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sunny Shankar Jadhav (age 23, a resident of Chaitraban Vasahat, Bibvewadi), Salman, alias Salya Hamid Sheikh (age 25, a resident of Upper Bibvewadi), and Harshal Santosh Chavan.
Police informed that after Madhav Waghate’s murder in May 2021, the accused, Sunny Jadhav, is operating the gang. Chavan has 13 serious cases registered against him, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, grievous hurt, assault on people, possession of deadly weapons, and disobeying police orders. Preventive action had been taken against him many times. Further, he was declared a tadipar for two years from March 18, 2019.
However, due to his continuous criminal activities, he was lodged in Yerawada Jail under MPDA on December 29, 2020, for one year. After that, the action was taken against Chavan under MCOCA in November 2023. Further, another accused, Salman Sheikh, has 6 serious cases registered against him, including two attempted murders, the Arms Act, and unlawful assembly. Preventive action has also been taken against him.
On May 15, 2021, 8 to 10 people attacked and brutally murdered Madhav Waghate, a recidivist criminal, from the dispute that arose between them on some WhatsApp status. After that, the supporters of Madhav Waghate organised a grand bike rally of 125 bikes from Dhankawadi to Katraj crematorium in the funeral procession of Madhav Waghate.
This bike rally created a stir in the city. Due to this, the Pune Police registered several cases against the participants of the bike rally and started their arrest session. In the action, police seized numerous bikes of the participants. In this case, the Bibvewadi police had arrested several people, including Pawan Satish Gawali (age 28, resident of Bibvewadi Ota Scheme, Bibvewadi). After that, there was peace between the two gangs for a long time.
However, surprisingly, on Monday afternoon, the members of the Madhav Waghate gang opened gunfire on one of the accused in the Madhav Waghate murder case, Pavan Gawali. Police informed that Gawali does business, and on Monday afternoon, when he was going towards VIT College from Samvidhan Chowk on his bike, four individuals targeted him. Of these four accused, two were having pistols, whereas two individuals were having swords in their hands.
Within moments, the individuals fired a bullet towards Gawali and fled from the scene. The bullet hit Gawali’s waist, and he was immediately admitted to the hospital after the incident. As soon as the police learnt about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Rajkumar Shinde, along with senior officers, visited the spot and took information. Pawan Gawali’s condition is stable. Police have arrested three people and are searching for 5 to 7 others. Senior Police Inspector Suraj Bendre is investigating the case further.
