Jayant Patil accuses Maharashtra Government of using ‘Ladki Baheen Yojana’ for election gains

Pune: With Maharashtra’s assembly elections just around the corner, political activity in the state is intensifying. Senior leaders from Shiv Sena, BJP, NCP, MNS and Congress have begun visiting various parts of the state as they gear up for the upcoming polls. Amidst this, the NCP’s Sharad Pawar-led Shiv Swarajya Yatra made its way to Baramati on Sunday, where senior politician and NCP leader, Jayant Patil, leveled serious allegations against the state government. Patil accused the government of using the ‘Ladki Baheen Yojana’ as a political tool to influence the upcoming elections.
According to Patil, the government has strategically implemented the scheme only until the elections, raising questions about its sincerity and long-term commitment to the welfare of women. The ‘Ladki Baheen Yojana,’ a welfare scheme aimed at improving the socio-economic status of girls and women in the state, has been criticized by Patil for its timing. He argues that while the scheme appears beneficial on the surface, it is being used as a tactic to garner votes rather than as a genuine effort to uplift women in Maharashtra.
Further criticizing the government, Patil accused it of prioritizing short-term electoral gains over sustainable development and long-term welfare programs. He claimed that the ruling party’s focus is more on winning elections than on addressing the pressing issues faced by women in the state.
Patil stated, “When we form the government, the Chief Minister Ladki Baheen Yojana will be given a better shape.”
He also accused the current government of making announcements because they anticipate losing the upcoming assembly elections. “Now people don’t trust them anymore; farmers have also recognized them,” Patil added.
Addressing the issue of Maratha reservation, Patil mentioned that the state government had assured activist Manoj Jarange Patil but has yet to take any decisive action. Jarange Patil had met Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Navi Mumbai, but no decision has been made so far.
Patil also alleged that there was an attempt to terrorize political leaders following attacks on former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and former MLA Jitendra Awhad’s car. He condemned the attacks, stating that despite being informed, the police did not take necessary action, suggesting that the police might be encouraging such activities.
