Kondhwa-based Firoz Nizam Shaikh held for cheating 25 women through Shaadi dot com website
Pune: A man cheated over 25 women through the matrimonial website: Shaadi dot com. The Kolhapur LCB arrested Firoz Nizam Shaikh, a resident of Kondhwa, hailing from Indapur taluka, on Sunday from the city.
An offence was registered against him at the Rajwada Police Station in Kolhapur. Investigation revealed that he mainly targeted divorcees and widows.
According to the details, a divorcee from Kolhapur registered her name on Shaadi dot com. Shaikh got her mobile phone number from the website and proposed to marry her. He introduced himself as an industrial contractor. He then befriended her and established physical relations. On the pretext of business issues, he took Rs 1.69 lakh and ornaments worth Rs 8.25 lakh from her.
When the woman insisted on getting married, he started avoiding her and told her that he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. The woman realised the fraud and lodged a complaint at the Rajwada Police Station. The Kolhapur LCB arrested him from Kondhwa, Pune. Shaikh is married and has two children.
During his interrogation revealed that he cheated 25 women through the same modus operandi. He has duped many of lahs of rupees. Earlier, an offence was registered against him at the Indapur Police Station. Complaints were also received against him at various places.
