Maha Yuti should support Amit Thackeray in Mahim: Ashish Shelar
Mumbai: MNS President Raj Thackeray has announced the list of his party’s candidates for the State Assembly polls. His son Amit Thackeray is one of them.
Amit Thackeray will contest his maiden election from Mahim. Shiv Sena’s (BT) Sada Sarvankar is the Maha Yuti candidate here. The Shiv Sena (UBT) has fielded Mahesh Sawant. This is likely to be a triangular fight.
In this backdrop, BJP City Unit President Ashish Shelar made a statement, which could twist the scenario. He said, “We should support Amit Thackeray.” This means the Maha Yuti may back Thackeray in Mahim.
Shelar’s statement
Ashish Shelar said, “I think we should support Amit Thackeray. I will discuss this with CM Eknath Shinde, DyCM Devendra Fadnavis and DyCM Ajit Pawar. They will decide on the issue. There is no difference of opinion on this. This will give a message about Maharashtra’s culture of accommodating even an opponent. We do not oppose Sada Sarvankar, who is the Maha Yuti candidate.”
Uday Samant’s view
Commenting on Shelar’s statement, State Minister Uday Samant said, “Ashish Shelar may be sharing his party’s view. But CM Shinde and DyCMs Fadnavis and Pawar would decide on this. It is a big issue. Raj Thackeray’s son is contesting. What could be done? It is not appropriate to express my opinion on this.”
People are eager to know what stance the Shiv Sena (BT) and its leader CM Eknath Shinde take as they have already named their candidate.
