MCOCA invoked against Walmik Karad, supporters become aggressive

Pune: In a major development in the Massajog Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh murder case, the MCOCA has been invoked against accused Walmik Karad.

He was in police custody in an extortion case and was produced before the Sessions Court, which rejected the CID’s demand for extending his police custody. Later, Karad was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

Tension in Parli

Tension prevailed in Parli after the MCOCA was invoked against Karad. His supporters immediately launched an agitation and gave a call for bandh. Most of the shops were closed. Karad’s wife alleged politicisation of the issue. She said, “My husband is innocent. It has been proved but allegations have been levelled against him purposely. This is due to casteism. People will now agitate. A criminal has no caste. This has to stop.”

‘Invoke MCOCA against all accused’

Santosh Deshmukh’s daughter Vaibhavi said that they demanded invoking MCOCA against Karad. All those involved in her father’s murder should be made co-accused. MCOCA should be applied to them as well.

Santosh Deshmukh’s brother Dhananjay Deshmukh said, “We trust the police and the CM. They will take proper action. MCOCA should be applied to all accused.”
