NCP (AP) MLA Devendra Bhuyar makes derogatory statements about women, farmers

Amravati: A video clip of a speech given by NCP (AP) MLA Devendra Bhuyar has gone viral on social media. He has made a controversial statement about women and farmers in it. The speech was given at a public rally in Amravati. This has given rise to allegations and counter-allegations.
In the video clip, Bhuyar says, “If you want to marry a girl, you must be employed. People like you and me do not get smart girls. Salaried boys get smart girls. Paan shop owners, grocers, traders get number 2 (not-so-good-looking) girls. The remaining ugly girls are married off to sons of farmers, who are really unfortunate.”
Following MLA Bhyar’s statement, allegations and counter-allegations are being made in political circles. On the one hand, the Maha Yuti has launched the Ladki Bahin Yojana while their MLA’s remarks about women and farmers have invited public ire.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Shushma Andhare has criticised the MLA. She said, “Bhuyar’s statement is an insult to sons of the soil. It humiliates people. Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde supporters are now confident that action will not be taken against them even if they say or do wrong things. These statements are a result of their arrogance. Is it your agenda to insult women and farmers?”
