Mumbai : Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance and Planning Minister, Ajit Pawar, through the social media platform ‘X’, appealed to the media for spreading baseless news. “In some media outlets, the news about the Finance Department’s opposition to the Chief Minister ‘Majhi Ladki Bahin’ scheme is baseless, inconsistent with facts, and politically motivated. The media should stop spreading such baseless news,” he said.

Meanwhile, expressing confidence that no one in the state will believe such news, Ajitdada Pawar also appealed to everyone to involve more sisters in the success of the ‘Mukhyamantri Maji Ladki Bahin’ scheme.

As Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and the state’s Finance and Planning Minister, the ‘Majhi Ladki Bahin’ scheme was presented in the state’s budget for 2024-25. Pawar clarified that the announcement of this scheme was made in the state’s budget only after obtaining approval from Finance and Planning, all concerned departments, and the state cabinet.

In the current financial year, the entire amount of ₹35,000 crores required for the scheme has been provisioned in this year’s budget. Thus, the question of where the money will come from for this scheme does not arise, Ajitdada Pawar emphasized, adding that a financially prosperous state like Maharashtra can spend such an amount.

The state government is prepared to spend this amount to enhance the economic independence, self-reliance, nutrition, and overall empowerment of mothers, sisters, and daughters in the state, and to increase their dignity, honour, and pride. Therefore, there is no reason for anyone in this state to oppose the ‘Mukhyamantri Maji Ladki Bahin’ scheme, and no one can oppose it, Ajitdada Pawar clarified.
