Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Disaster Management Department has deployed three teams, along with advanced equipment, to face eventualities following the deluge in the district.

PMRDA’s Fire Brigade has launched rescue operations. Its Commissioner Yogesh Mhase has instructed officials to implement measures immediately to tackle the emergency situation.

Ekta Nagar and surrounding areas in the city got flooded on Thursday (July 25) following the excessive rainfall in the past couple of days. PMRDA deployed its three teams, two rubber boats and rescue equipment in the affected area. They helped the PMC’s Fire Brigade in the rescue operation.

Moreover, PMRDA’s Fire Brigade conducted rescues in housing societies in Sus and Bavdhan. A tree collapse on a road in Kirkatwadi disrupted traffic. The road was cleared for traffic after removing the uprooted tree. Two teams from the Wagholi Fire Station have been deployed in Vishrantwadi.

Water was being discharged from the Khadakwasla Dam continuously. Hence, the bridge connecting Nanded, Shivane was closed for traffic by the PMRDA’s Fire Brigade. Seven people were rescued from a residential building in Shanti Nagar. PMRDA’s Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode, along with other officials and jawans, was monitoring the situation.
