Police constable ends life by hanging himself in Vaibhavwadi, Sindhudurg

Sindhudurg: Anil Govind Shete (40), hailing from Kolhapur district, attached with the Vaibhavwadi Police Station in Konkan hanged himself to death at his residence at around 8.30 pm on May 1. He was posted at the police station for the past some years.

Earlier, he was transferred to the Vijaydurg Police Station but was later shifted back to Vaibhavwadi. He was staying with his family in a housing complex. He was undergoing treatment for some psychological condition. He visited Kolhapur for the purpose two days ago.

His wife was working in the kitchen in the evening on May 1. Shete was in the bedroom. She called him as he did not come out of the room for a long time. But he did not respond. When she peeped into the room from a window, she saw him hanging from the ceiling fan.

She raised an alarm and the neighbours rushed to help. The police were alerted. The police broke open the door and admitted him to the Vaibhavwadi Rural Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. His body was handed over to his relatives after a post-mortem. Shete is survived by his wife, two daughters and parents.
