Kolhapur: All parties in the State are gearing up for the State Assembly polls. Meetings are being conducted. State-wide campaigns are underway.

The state poll will be held in a couple of months. Two major alliances, Maha Yuti and MVA, will be pitched against each other in the elections.

Now, NCP (AP) President Ajit Pawar has announced the first candidate from his party for the State polls during his tour of Kolhapur district. He named State Minister Hasan Mushrif’s candidature from the Kagal Assembly Constituency. Pawar was addressing a party gathering in Kagal on Sunday.

Appealing to voters, Pawar said, “You should elect Hasan Mushrif with such a huge margin that his opponent will not dare to contest elections again.”

Meanwhile, BJP leader Samarjit Ghatge is also an aspirant from Kagal. However, Ajit Pawar has already announced the candidature of Mushrif. NCP (AP) is an alliance partner, along with the BJP and Shiv Sena (BT), in the Maha Yuti.

It remains to be seen what stance Ghatge takes now. There were talks that Sharad Pawar would welcome Ghatge in his party.

People are eager to know if Ghatge joins the NCP (SP) and challenges Mushrif in the State Assembly polls. This will be Mushrif’s seventh assembly election. Earlier, he won five times out of six contests. He was defeated by Sanjay Ghatge of the Shiv Sena in the bypoll during the Maha Yuti government.
