Pune: 26-year-old woman raped in Shivshahi bus at Swargate (Videos)

Pune: A 26-year-old woman heading towards Phaltan was asked to get into a Shivshahi bus and was raped. The incident took place at around 5.30 am on Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as Dattatray Ramdas Gade (35), resident of Shikrapur, and eight teams of the police fanned out to trace him. Two robbery offences were registered against him earlier.
DCP Smartana Patil said, “The 26-year-old woman wanted to travel to her hometown Phaltan and arrived at Swargate around 5.30 am. A person told her that she would get the bus for Phaltan at the other end of the bus stand. When the woman said that she knew the platform number. However, the accused told her that he has been travelling by the bus for the past 10 years and persuaded her to board the bus parked at a secluded corner.
“Taking advantage of darkness, he also entered the bus and locked its door from inside and raped her. Later, the woman boarded a bus bound for Phaltan.
However, she returned to Swargate when the bus covered half the distance. She narrated the incident to the Swargate Police, who checked CCTV footage from the area. They identified the accused. The Pune Rural Police had filed two robbery cases against him. Eight police teams were searching for him, said DCP Patil.
